Assembly of the moulded product.
The assembly and moulding departments of Silkjet has recently been inundated with an extremely large project for the assembly of the moulded product for a large national blue chip company. We have moulded all of the components in total over 500 tonnes of material for this particular project, the output from the sales equates to a pro-rata business of £9M per annum I.e. three times our normal rate, this has been achieved without detriment to our existing customers. We went from 15 units the first day to over 400 units per day, the required rate. this was achieved on schedule in 4 weeks and we ran at an average of this rate for the duration of the project. We have increased the workforce by another 45 people thus an increase of 140%, again this has been no small feat by the management team to train, assimilate and manage these people to ensure the project hit all of the targets required on quality and volume. The layout and production / quality plans were produced using Six Sigma Black Belt techniques, setting targets and measuring what was achievable, the management team then ensured that the plan was followed. the assembly included Ultra Sonic Welding, Solvent Welding and screwing of plastic parts, toughened Glass was imported along with pens and magnets, all assembled into four basic modules. We have been delivering on average 2000 complete units per week, we have proved we can manage large rollout volumes as well as lower volume business. |
